Easiest in Chrome, but Edge, Brave, and Samsung Internet also work.

  2. Or: three-dot menu → Install FishingKnots…
  3. Safari (Sonoma+): File menu → Add to Dock
  4. The app launches in its own window — find it later in Applications (Mac) or Start menu (Windows)

Common Questions

Does this cost anything?

No. FishingKnots.com is free and always will be. Installing the web app is free, no account or signup required, no in-app purchases.

How does offline mode actually work?

The first time you visit any page (a knot guide, a comparison, a species guide), your browser saves it locally. The next time you open that page — even with no cell signal — it loads instantly from your device. Pages you haven't visited yet won't be available offline; visit them once when you have signal.

Does it use much storage?

No. The full knot library uses about 2-5 MB once cached — less than a single high-res photo. We also automatically trim the cache to the 80 most recently visited pages so it never grows out of control.

Why isn't it on the App Store?

It's a Progressive Web App, which is faster to install (one tap, no download), uses dramatically less storage than a native app, and updates automatically every time you visit. The trade-off is you install it from your browser instead of the App Store. Same idea as installing a website to your home screen.

Will videos work offline?

No — the knot tutorial videos live on YouTube and stream from there. Once offline, you'll see the page text, photos, and step-by-step instructions, but the embedded video won't play. The written guides are designed to be self-contained so you can tie any knot from the steps alone.

Is this tracking me?

The app uses the same Google Analytics that fishingknots.com already uses to count visits — nothing more. No personal data, no contacts, no location, no permissions of any kind. The PWA doesn't have access to anything more than a normal website does.
